Taking stock of your analysis
11.
How did you go about analyzing the text? What
methods did you use – and which ones were most helpful? : When analyzing the
text I believe I used mostly data & causal analysis. It was important to
for me to communicate both to build a sense of how & why the subject should
matter to my readers.
22.
How did you go about drafting your essay? : I took
short notes while reading through the most pertinent information I could find.
I then thought about what my position was regarding the subject & and
strategy of how to communicate that position to my audience as well as thinking
carefully about who that audience was.
33.
How well did you organize your written analysis?
What if anything, could you do to make it easier to read? : I feel I could have
organized my analysis better. I perhaps wrote from more of a stream of consciousness
perspective rather than an organized well analyzed perspective. In retrospect I
would have laid out more of my information in my notes and spent time
strategizing my approach prior to beginning.
44.
Did you provide sufficient evidence to support
your analysis? : I feel I may be a bit short of evidence & need to find a
way to craft more of the empirical evidence into my argument.
55.
What did you do especially well? : I feel I made
a strong argument for my audience to take their dietary choices seriously &
for them to seek more information that is specifically relevant to their
personal health needs.
66.
What could still be improved? : I need to
improve my paper with more counter arguments. If my audience is leaning to my position
I need to address what others are saying about the subject.
77.
Did you use any visuals, and if so what did they
add? Could you have shown the same thing with words? : I have not used any
visuals yet. I feel visuals would support my point or draw the audience on an
emotional level.
88.
How did
other readers’ responses influence your writing? : Through the process of
others reading & annotating my writing I learned that my position was
lacking specific counter arguments to address. I felt I had included a counter,
but it’s too vague. It just doesn’t give me the opportunity to drive my point
home.
99.
What would you do differently next time? : I
will take more notes, organize my analysis prior to beginning my writing, &
make sure that I’m including all of the pieces early on so as to avoid trying
to weave them into the narrative late in the draft stage.
110.
Are you pleased with your analysis? What did it
teach you about the text you analyzed? Did it make you want to study more works
by the same writer or artist? : I feel good about what I’ve written. It was
enjoyable to share what I learned & read with others for their benefit.
Yes, I would like to study more work by the writer/s.
111.
What are the skills and processes you can take
from this assignment on into future writing situations? : I can see that the
skills of analyzing the subject & making a persuasive organized strategy to
support my position can be adapted to many future assignments & work tasks.
I expect to use these skill very often in the future.
